A beautiful Saxon harbour village situated on the edge of one of the several inlets of Chichester Harbour, Bosham (pronounced”Bozzum”) has a rich history dating back to Roman times .Bosham is mentioned on the Bayeux Tapestry because of its connections with King Harold. This history is well documented in the church. There has been a church on the same site, on Quay Meadow, since 800AD and parts of the existing building date back to Saxon times.

King Canute’s daughter is said to be buried there after having drowned in the millstream. Legend has it that it was here that he tried to turn the tide in order to demonstrate to his people that no-one was invincible, even the King. Several people have got their feet wet since then though, as the shore road really does flood very quickly each high tide.

We do provide Tide Tables!!

Chichester Harbour is a National Trust “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty “and therefore protected from development. The buildings around the quay area have not changed outwardly over the last 100 years and although the fishing boats have been replaced by sailing yachts and dinghies, there are still plenty of them. The area is a magnet to water birds and their watchers and twitchers alike and an ideal landscape for artists and photographers. There are some beautiful waterside walks and in the summer a foot ferry they also carry bikes runs across to the village of Itchenor ,from where one can take a boat tour of the harbour.
